This guidance document on implementing rapid gender assessment surveys on the impacts of COVID-19 was developed by UN Women’s global gender data programme, Making Every Woman and Girl Count (Women Count),1 to increase the programme’s relevance in response to the COVID-19 crisis, while continuously delivering on its core objectives.
It provides support for UN Women colleagues in Regional and Country Offices (ROs & COs) and others seeking to integrate the gendered impacts of COVID-19 into their work and to better understand COVID-19’s disproportionate impacts and implications for women and girls. It explains why gendered impact analysis is important; provides core as well as thematic questions relating to the gendered impacts of COVID-19; and offers a sample/reference questionnaire, including tips and guidance. The questionnaire provides simple, straightforward questions on:
- core topics strongly suggested to be asked by all UN Women ROs and COs implementing these surveys; and
- thematic topics that ROs and COs may opt to ask, depending on their area-specific priorities and programmes. These are expected to result in rapid outputs for those who intend to improve the design and outcomes of post-COVID-19 programmes and interventions, policy and decision-making.
