The Second Kenya Strategy for Development of Statistics

The Second Kenya Strategy for Development of Statistics (KSDS II) 2023/24-2027/28 was developed (by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the members of the National Statistical System (NSS) and the data ecosystem, which  include the UN Agencies such as UN Women) to provide a structured framework for production and dissemination of statistics including gender statistics that meet the user needs and statistical capacity development and coordination across different agencies.  The KSDS II is anchored on Kenya Vision 2030 (Medium Term Plan IV) and guides the NSS towards production of statistics for decision making in each of the MTP IV sectors. It is also aligned to regional, continental and global strategies for development of statistics.

The priorities outlined in the Strategy provide guidelines to be adopted in various sectors in the development of Sector Statistics Plans (e.g. Gender Sector Statistics Plan 2024/25 – 2027/28) including Counties, who are also expected to develop County Statistics Plans in line with the KSDS II.

The development of KSDS II adopted a top-down approach where members of the NSS and stakeholders of the data ecosystem identified the priorities of the statistical system and wrote the strategy in line with them. All producers of statistics are expected to align their  sector statistics plans to the priority areas of KSDS II.

The four focus areas in the KSDS II are: Data-Driven Culture for Sustainable Development, Coordination of the Statistical System, Statistical Capacity Development and Resource mobilization and sustainability for statistics
