Mongolia's NSO receives the certificate for Most Gender-Friendly Government Agency

During the first conference on Gender and Development, organized on 9 December 2020 by the City Council of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s National Statistics Office (NSO) was awarded the certificate for “Most Gender Friendly Government Agency” in the country, a recognition of the NSO’s gender-sensitive workplan, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation activities. UN Women has been a partner of the NSO since May 2019.

Mongolia's NSO, which is being supported by UN Women on the calculation of gender indicators and for promoting the use of gender statistics, is also in the process of establishing an integrated database on gender statistics. UN Women and the NSO have also jointly provided training on Gender Statistics to a wide range of data users in the country, from policy makers to journalists and students. In addition, joint work is underway to generate environment statistics from a gender perspective, create communication products utilizing gender data and promote further training for the production of gender statistics across provinces and municipalities.

The certificate also recognizes the gender-responsiveness of the NSO's policies, which have been highlighted as an example for other national agencies to follow. For instance, the office has achieved gender balance at all levels of management with 50/50 representation, and promotes a family friendly work environment by providing a children's playground, relaxing rooms for staff members, a lactating room, a library and other facilities that create a pleasant workplace environment for both women and men.
