Brief Description
With EU funding support, Department of Justice and Equality's Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) undertook a 2-year project between 2014 and 2015 aiming to raise awareness of trafficking as a form of violence against women and girls and improve responses to this issue across the whole island of Ireland. The project had three strands: A conference to launch the project was held in March 2014, followed in February 2015 by two awareness-raising campaigns, the first aimed at ensuring women and girls on the island of Ireland who find themselves in a difficult situation in the sex trade are aware of the support that is available to them and where they can seek help, and the second targeting men and boys and promoting a message of zero tolerance of human trafficking as a form of violence against women and girls; and training and support to frontline actors, including the development of a ‘;mobile app’.
