Denmark does not have specific provisions on violence against women and girls in its Constitution.
Protections against violence against women are embedded within gender-neutral legislation:
- Criminal Code: Criminalizes sexual assault, rape (based on lack of consent), threats, coercion, and psychological violence (S. 243).
- Bill on Psychological Violence (2019): recognizes and criminalizes coercive control in close relationships (S.243).
- Aliens Act: Allows survivors of domestic violence to retain residency status independently of their abuser.
- Administration of Justice Act: Guarantees legal counsel for survivors during criminal proceedings (S. 742a).
- Social Services Act (S.109): Requires municipalities to provide shelter and support services to survivors.
- Act on Restraining Orders: Enables protective measures such as no-contact and exclusion orders.
