Angola’s Constitution does not contain a specific provision on violence against women; while it guarantees the right to physical integrity and protection from violence under Article 36, it does not explicitly recognize gender-based violence.

Violence against women and girls is addressed within broader legal frameworks. However they do not address all forms of violence against women with gendered and power dynamic considerations. 

  • The Penal Code, 2019, criminalized domestic and sexual violence. 

  • Law No 2/2016, on the prevention and combat of domestic violence. 

National Action Plan on VAW/G (latest one that is currently into force)

As of 2025, Angola is due to updating its National Action Plan on Violence Against Women. The following are the latest ones in effect: 

- National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (2017-2020), including prevention of gender-based  violence. 

- The Executive Plan for Combating Domestic Violence 2013-2017.
