In Malawi, there have been 9,991 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 275 confirmed deaths. Initially reported predominantly in towns, the cases here have now spread to the community level and efforts are being invested to prevent further spread of the disease.
UN Women and UNFPA commissioned a rapid gender assessment (RGA) to investigate the impacts of COVID-19 on women and men in Malawi aged 18 years and older. With a particular focus on disadvantaged groups of women, including women living in rural areas and women of different age-groups, the study examines the consequences of the COVID-19 crisis on women and men and generates sex-disaggregated data to inform effective and gender-responsive decision-making.
This publication summarizes the findings of the RGA.
