Brief Description

Thailand’s Civil and Commercial Code Amendment Act (No. 24) of 2024, also known as the “Equal Marriage Act,” raises the minimum legal age for marriage and engagement from 17 to 18 years old. The amendment aims to strengthen protections against child and early marriage by aligning legal standards with international human rights principles. The law was published in the Royal Gazette on 24 September 2024 and is set to take effect on 22 January 2025.
