Brief Description

Between 2021 and 2023, the first national studies on violence against women in politics were conducted in Kyrgyzstan. These studies revealed widespread but underreported violence during election campaigns, with 39.9% of respondents having experienced at least one form of violence: 34.6% psychological, 10.7% harassment, 9.1% economic, 0.8% physical, and 0.5% sexual violence. Women candidates frequently reported degrading comments about their capabilities as politicians, sexualised insults, threats, and unequal access to financial resources. The research exposed the absence of legislative frameworks or response mechanisms addressing violence against women in politics.
