The Domestic Violence (Amendment) Act, 2023 strengthens the Government of Jamaica’s commitment to address domestic and gender-based violence and to enhance legal protections for survivors. Notable amendments include: expanding eligibility to apply for protection orders to include the Children's Advocate and other entities supporting vulnerable persons; widening the scope of prohibited conduct under the Act; introducing requirements for relinquishing firearms to promote safety; and significantly increasing penalties for breaching protection orders.
