In 2020, Law No. 21,212 was published, modifying the previous regulation that punished as a crime the violent death of a woman at the hands of a man with whom the victim has or had an intimate or family relationship ('intimate femicide'), in order to expand the crime of femicide to any murder of a woman for hate, contempt or gender related reasons, regardless of the relationship or link of the murderer with his victim (non-intimate femicide). This law also introduced the crime of "femicidal suicide", punishing anyone who induces a woman to commit suicide or assists her in committing it, when this results in her death. It is also punished to the crime of rape with femicide. This evidences the efforts to provide an institutional response to other forms of gender-based violence that manifests in contexts outosde from the domestic or intimate sphere.

En el año 2020 se publicó la Ley N°21.212, modificando así la antigua regulación que sancionaba como delito la muerte violenta de una mujer a manos de un hombre con quien la víctima tenía o tuvo una relación íntima, familiar o afectiva (femicidio íntimo), con la finalidad de ampliar el delito de femicidio a cualquier asesinato de una mujer con motivos de odio, menosprecio o abuso por causa de género, sin importar la relación o vínculo del asesino con su víctima (femicidio no íntimo). A su vez, con dicha ley se introdujo la figura delictual de” suicidio femicida”, sancionado, así, a todo aquel que induce a una mujer al suicidio o le presta auxilio para cometerlo, teniendo como resultado su muerte, además del delito de violación con femicidio, todo lo cual evidencia los esfuerzos por brindar una respuesta institucional a otras formas de violencia de género bajo la comprensión de que esta se puede manifestar en contextos que exceden del ámbito doméstico o de pareja.
