Brief Description
In the area of partnership, the Government of Burundi has signed an agreement with United Nations agencies (UN WOMEN, UNFPA, UNICEF and UNDP) for the implementation of the joint program to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) covering the period from 2014 to 2016. IFAD supports Family and Community Development Centers in the areas of action of the projects it finances in the fight against SGBV. The challenges to be met in this area include: (i) the eradication of SGBV and the systematic application of the “Zero Tolerance Principle against SGBV”; (ii) control of socio-cultural barriers that hamper the reporting of cases of SGBV; (iii) the establishment of an effective early warning system and mechanisms to prevent SGBV and protect victims of SGBV; (iv) the offer of integrated care services to all declared victims; (v) the provision of legal/judicial assistance to the victims received; (vi) accompanying measures for the protection of witnesses; (vii) building the capacities of the police/defense forces in the fight against SGBV; (viii) community mobilization and engagement against SGBV; and (ix) coordination of actors and availability of updated national data on SGBV.
