Brief Description
As part of the fight against violence against women and girls, a professional retraining strategy for circumcisers has been put in place. It is based on the rupture of the offer allowing to act on the circumcisers in activity in order to lead to a retraining of the latter. To this end, the strategy follows the following process:
• identification of circumcisers;
• the holding of retraining seminars for circumcisers and symposiums for guardians of the tradition of circumcisers;
• restitution of the results of the seminar in the villages by excisers and guardians of the tradition;
• carrying out awareness-raising activities (door-to-door chat, film debates, etc.) by the association's facilitators accompanied by circumcisers;
• the organization of populations by customary and religious leaders and ex-excisors for the adoption of non-excision as a customary and religious social norm followed by a public declaration of the abandonment of excision;
• monitoring, sustainability and consolidation of achievements.
Over the period 2015-2018, 113 circumcisers were retrained and participate in the implementation of awareness-raising and awareness-raising actions for the populations.
