A charter of the Mayors of Burkina Faso for the promotion of the abandonment of the practice of excision was signed on February 6, 2014. In addition, associative and professional structures have undertaken, through the signing of the charters, to promote actions to eliminate the practice of FGM (midwives, social workers). In addition, 70 villages and 8 sectors of the Central Plateau Region have publicly declared the abandonment of FGM through their community leaders following information and communication campaigns on the abandonment of FGM carried out in this Region by the GASCODE Association. A total of more than 546 new leaders (customary and religious, political, youth and women leaders, 14 ex-excisors) have made declarations of public support in favor of the abandonment of FGM in these localities.
